Blogmas Day 5 - Festive Nails

Hey loves.

Just wanted to share some festive nails I did up for the month of December. I'm no nail artist so some simple glitter accent nails is about as festive as it'll get from me. I hope you guys like this short but sweet post. I'm off work now for a month and have no idea what I'm going to do with myself!

What are you all getting up to this Holiday?

Daycream - Sally Hansen

Good afternoon everyone!
I've finally used all the nail polishes in my current collection so when I wanted to test out something new, I headed to my nearest Wal-Mart.

I've always found Sally Hansen to be a reputable brand and price wise these were the most affordable option. Before I go any further, let me say, I've tried amazing one dollar polishes and really horrendous ten dollar polishes so I don't think price is a reflection of quality.
These retail for $2.50 and this time they let me down.
The color is aptly named "Daycream." A pale pastel pink that takes about three coats to make opaque.
The color is simply gorgeous especially as we transition into Spring. The formula on the other hand leaves something to be desired. I let these dry for at least an hour and one accidental rub over the nail it was smudged and caked up in different areas. Maybe it was because I didn't apply a top coat but honestly I've never had anything on my nails that was so easily moved after drying that long.
I have another polish from this range to try out and my hopes aren't high. Updates to follow.

What's your favorite Spring time color?

Nails - Revlon Impulse

Hey loves!

I like doing nail posts but I find they all turn out quite similar. It always seems that most polishes I try perform the same way which leads to similar reviews.
Yet again, Revlon's nail polish in Impulse isn't much different than your average polish.
Impulse is a beautiful, simple purple. Perfect for anytime of the year. It lasted about four days with a top coat with minimal chipping which is actually fairly decent for a drug store polish. Most tend to chip within a day or two even the more expensive brands, I'm looking at you Essie.

What is your favorite nail color for Summer?

*Press On Nails - Worth it?

Hello loves!

Every woman I know absolutely loves having fresh nails that while look amazing aren't exactly practical.
I'm not one for fake nails as I find them difficult to complete basic tasks with and I can't bring myself to spend fifty to sixty dollars for a fill every couple of weeks.
That's where imPress nails come in.

I received these complimentary from Influenster to try out and while I wasn't required to write a blog post I figured why not?

The design of these is right up my alley! The simple matte blue with a gold glitter accent nail is timeless and will always be in style. They look quite purple in the photo but I assure you in person they are a dark navy.
The kit came with 30 nails, a file, a prep pad and a cuticle pusher.
The downfall with press on's is that they don't stand up to gel nails time wise. Unfortunately within about 5 hours into my work day the accent nail had fallen off. Lucky for me my manager at work just so happened to have a bottle of nail glue handy.
I ended up ripping them all off and re applying them with the nail glue. After re gluing them all into place they lasted for about two more days!
I know nail glue isn't the best thing for our nail beds but neither is having constant gel nails.
If you want those gorgeous nails you see all the bloggers and maybe even some people you know have I highly recommend press on's for a cheaper alternative and if you really want them to last I'd pick up a bottle of nail glue to use as the adhesive on these isn't quite strong enough to last.

Press on's or gel nails, which do you prefer?

E.L.F. - Electric Fuschia

Okay I've only had this on for one day BUT before you tell me one day is not long enough to form an opinion. It is when the polish is total crap.

E.l.f is a an affordable brand with a lot of wonderful products but affordable can sometimes come with some garbage products as well. This polish is categorized as garbage. It is kind of old though so maybe it's because I've had it sitting around so long but it applied streaky and uneven bunching up in areas on the nail. The color when first applied is this gorgeous bright fuschia! As it wears it dries down to a darker toned down fuschia. Don't get me wrong the color isn't bad but I really loved how it looked when I first applied it so to see it become so much darker was disappointing. Before the night was even over and doing minimal work with my hands the polish was already chipping off around the sides of my nail beds.

All in all I'm so incredibly disappointed with this and am happy it was only a mini bottle (which I ended up tossing in the trash). It was that bad.

Have you tried E.l.f.s polish range?

Christmas Nails

Hey everyone.

I was feeling a tad creative today well as creative as it gets when you don't have the proper nail art tools. I wanted to create a Christmas inspired nail look. Originally I wanted to do alternating red & green glitter nails. After searching my polish stash I had no greens at all so instead I went with a red and white look, clearly inspired by candy canes and Santa's colors.

Using:
Essie's "Blanc" for the white
N.Y.C. Polish in "Imperial Red"
a dollar store glitter topper.

Hope you guys like it!
I definitely want to purchase some nail art tools to create better looks but for now simple will do.

F A L L N A I L S - with E S S I E

Hey loves!

Please excuse the not so neatly done nails. Originally I wanted to do Halloween themed nails which I did attempt multiple times to be honest....although I could not get them to work out so they were painted then taken off, then repainted so on and so forth. I first had them painted all black then tried to add spiderwebs using a white polish but that failed, then I tried again with the same black base but adding the words boo! and unfortunately those didn't work out either. I clearly need much more practice in the land of nail art...

I did want to follow in the deep color trend of fall though so I used Essie - After School Boy Blazer which Essie describes on their site as a blue-black. On my nails however this comes off much more of a dark purple then navy, still a beautiful color but not close to what it's described as.
Essie's polishes are quite pricey retailing at $11.99 a bottle in Canada. You'd expect at that price to be getting a polish that would last you more than a day. Within one day there was quite a bit of chipping around the tops and edges of my nails. I hear people rave about Essie all the time and I have to tell you, please don't believe the hype. For $11.99 there are SO MANY better polish brands out there.
Essie does have a phenomenal shade range but that is about it.

Do you guys love Essie?

{NOTD} // Musical Monday

Habits - Tove Lo

Hey everyone.
I don't know about you guys but I had quite the Monday that started off terribly at 6:30 this morning and honestly hasn't got much better. I hope everyone had a better day than me!
I've always really liked this song and I'm not in a great spot in my relationship at the moment and this in a way this is how I'm feeling - minus the getting high part of course. But I've got some tough decisions to make...

I also wanted to share a quick little Nails of the Day, nothing super fancy but thought why the hell not?

e.l.f cosmetics - Banana Split and a glitter top coat from the dollar store (it's garbage it's already peeling off)

Until next time...

{NOTD}

Hey everyone!

Wanted to share a quick little "Nails of the day"
For this I used E.L.F.s Flirty Fuschia as my base and for the glitter I used a Mariposa dollar store polish, don't knock em till you try em.

I know they aren't the neatest but I still wanted to show you.

=)

{NOTD}

Hey guys, I have just been completely neglecting so many things lately my blog being one of them.
I've been having a rough go lately and just could not draw inspiration from anywhere still actually having a difficult time so this will be just a quick post unfortunately. I'm so sorry I will get back into the swing of things I promise.

I haven't painted my nails in ages and all of a sudden last night I thought hmm...I should paint my nails and here we are!
I used E.l.f.s polish in "Nude" as my base (two coats) and for my accent nail I used just a dollar store glitter polish that I mentioned in a previous post. I really like nude polish as I think it can be work year round and works on almost all skin tones this one is a very pink nude but I still could see it working for varying skin tones.

I've been having a lot of trouble lately growing my nails as they get to a certain length and ALWAYS seem to break or tear and it's really frustrating so if anyone has any product recommendations to strengthen/grow nails I would really appreciate it if you left them in the comments below.

The next post isn't far away, I just have a few things I need to get together ;)

=)

e.l.f. - Skinny Jeans

Hey loves!

Quick post today about e.l.f.s nail polish in "Skinny Jeans"

I adore this color the blue is amazing! Should I mention this was only ONE coat?! Pretty impressive for a $1 nail polish. A few hours after I  painted them however it had chipped already but I'm not surprised there, it doesn't bother me too much as I am one to paint their nails a different color almost everyday haha and yes I did use a top coat! I would buy this again just because I love love love the color!

This nail polish was a part of e.l.f.s brights nail polish cube which retails for $14 CAD

What's dressing your nails?

NOTD

Hello loves!

Here are my nails of the day. I used Essie's "After School Boy Blazer" as the base and Sephora's "Party Animal" as the glitter top coat and then to finish it all off I used a Revlon Top Coat.

Sephora's Party Animal is a great glitter polish and I never have many good things to say about glitter polishes but this one dried so quick where as the MANY others I've tried never seem to dry and then when you go to put a top coat on you just end up creating a smudged disaster but with Party Animal I had no problems what so ever.

I absolutely love glitter over dark bases and will continue to wear my nails like this throughout most of fall and winter.

=)

Sephora: New Year's Resolution musical monday

Hello everyone, my apologies for the messy nails!

This is Sephora's nail polish in New Years Resolution, it looks really light in this photo but in natural light it is a lot darker, I love this color and am very curious to see what it would like with a matte top coat, might need to try it next!

Took two coats to make it completely opaque like most polishes, this is with a top coat and base coat. They did chip in a couple of days but hey I've yet to find a polish that doesn't so I'm not docking points there. Overall it's a great polish would be fantastic around holidays with a glitter accent nail!

For this musical monday....a little 90's throwback. Enjoy.

Sally Hansen - Black Out {hard as xtreme wear}

The other day I began to do my nails and then realized there was not enough in the bottle for both hands! So off I went to the drugstore and in small town Alberta it seems black is a hard to find color, haha.

The only non sparkly black I could find was Sally Hansens hard as xtreme nail wear in "black out."

First thing I love about it it's only $3.49 CAD and it's decent quality, I've bought more expensive polishes that have chipped immediately after applying.

It's been three days and there is only minimal chipping at the tips. I did have to use two coats though which is a little frustrating when I buy black polish of like the pigmentation to be much better. The formula is nice, smooth and easy to use.

A great cheap polish for people on a budget.

Have you tried any of the Sally Hansen {hard as xtreme} nail polishes?

Sally Hansen

Hey, first off I'd like to apologize for the shoddy job I did on my nails I couldn't get all the previous black polish off and I cut my nails and it's actually difficult I find to paint nails when they're short.

You can see the polish in the first photo I have no idea how old this is or where it's from as I found it at my moms and then it just ended up moving with me haha. It's a Sally Hansen polish but it doesn't have a name it does have a 04 on the top of the lid so I'm guessing it goes by numbers.

I'll be honest I have no clue what the Teflon in this polish is used for or supposed to do...haha. It's a nice polish it,s a very shimmery red but not bright and in your face! This stuff dries almost instantly it was dry by the time I finished the first nail on the other hand, amazing? Yes. I love the color it would make a great Christmas color of used with a silver sparkle or a green accent nail maybe? It hasn't lasted any longer than any other polish though unfortunately. I am constantly on the search for one that will.

Great polish by a great brand and Sally Hansen polishes are fairly decent priced.

If you ladies know of a great polish brand, let me know in the comments!

NOTD

Hello everyone, just a short post and a quick review on the e.l.f polish in "Chic Confetti"
I wanted to try something new with my nails aside from painting them one solid color so I used H&M's polish in "Chill Out" for my base and E.l.f.s "Chic Confetti" to do the bottom area in glitter which is how my thumbs were supposed to look as well but I made a mistake and ended up fixing it by painting the whole nail in glitter. Oops.

Chic Confetti is the best glitter polish I've used yet I got it in the bright nail polish cube ($14 CAD) by E.l.f. because of E.l.f.s prices I didn't expect much but it dries super quick  and actually creates a pretty even coat compared to some other glitter polishes I've tried.

I haven't tried to remove yet so maybe I'll get lucky and it'll be a breeze to remove!

REVLON - KNOCKOUT

Well I'm back with yet another nail review. I promise guys my blog won't be this terrible forever. I've been extremely busy moving into a new place.

The color as you may have read in the title is Revlon's "Knockout." Just a solid black polish, nothing special. It's not the best but it's not the worst. Revlon is in the cheaper range of polishes about $7.99 CAD a bottle so for a girl on a budget I would recommend these. They chip in about 2-3 days, more likely if you have a job with a lot of physical labor. As with almost any black polish you only need about one coat for complete color payoff.

I have no complaints about this polish. Definitely check out this polish if you're looking for simple and don't want to spend $12.99 for a black O.P.I. polish.

Love you guys, sorry I haven't been active for a while!

e.l.f polish in metallic elegance

Hello everyone, please excuse the nails.
I couldn't manage to get all the black polish from previous out of the corners of my nails and as you can see it's peeking through in these photos.
A while back I purchased the e.l.f. brights nail polish cube which included 14 sample size nail polishes for $14. I have never tried e.l.f. products before but I'd heard a lot of hype so I took the plunge.
Today I wanted to share my thoughts on the "Metallic Elegance" polish by e.l.f.
You can't tell by these photos that it's metallic but it is. The polish itself is extremely sheer, it takes about 3-4 coats to achieve color pay off which is a mega pain as I'm a very impatient person and can't stand having to wait between every coat. It applies unevenly and goopy and streaky as I'm sure you may have noticed. The packaging for these mini polishes I enjoy as it's very simple but still cute sitting on your dressing table. It's a nice color don't get me wrong and I think e.l.f polishes are a bit hit and miss as there were others in the cube I loved, sad to say this was not one of them although they have to yet to chip so that's a bonus!

Never Say NO!

image
Oh hey guys! It’s been a while since I’ve done a nail review hasn’t it? Well I’m back! This time it’s another one from the Sephora mini collection I started reviewing a couple months ago.
I think i’ve only reviewed about four of ten colors, maybe this is the fourth. However on to the review…
This color is called Never Say No, it’s just a metallic looking brown. Looking at it in the bottle I honestly thought I’d hate it but on the nails I actually really really like it. It’s subtle but still noticeable if you get that. The color payoff, absolutely incredible. The above photo was achieved with ONE COAT, ONE. Solid color for one coat which I love because I find painting nails to be a chore but I love having painted nails….
Not only is the color payoff great the lasting power and how quick it dried is  shocking. I don’t think I could be more in love with a polish at the moment. It’s a great neutral color and I’m loving it currently. I know summer is the time for brights but…oh well.

imPRESS Manicure - Disney Villains

image
Hello loves, I recently qualified for my first ever Influenster VoxBox. Influenster is a site where people can review products and the more products and social media presence they have the higher their score on the site is, the higher the score the better your chances are of scoring a voxbox which are sometimes specific brand based or variations of brands and items which are sent free for review compensation. I qualified for the Broadway Nails - imPRESS manicure voxbox. I’ve only been on Influenster for three months and already have qualified for my first voxbox, not bad hey? I received two imPRESS manicure sets. One is a pink, black and silver pattern, very pretty and the other a Disney Villain themed pack. I LOVE anything Disney so I tore into that pack right away. The color is a silver purple. In the picture above it reflects as more silver but in natural daylight it looks much more purple, gorgeous either way. The imPRESS sets are press on manicures. When you open the pack there are different sizes packed into a plastic nail polish bottle. Open the polish, the nails have a tape on the back that you pull off and then you press the nail onto your nail, start by pressing up the middle and then the sides of the nail. I love how easy this is to apply although within a day or so a few nails did fall off which was disappointing but they are not actually glued on so the staying power can not be expected to last as long as a real manicure. I love the concept of these and the price I just really wish they lasted longer. These retail for $10.99 in Wal-Mart so quite inexpensive. I would repurchase these again, they’re quick and easy and look fantastic.
*These products were sent to me for review purposes
