Top Three - Summer Nail Shades

Good morning loves!

Summer's here and the bright colors are out!
I wanted to share my top three favorite summer polish shades with you. I love white nails year round. They're classy, simple and work with everything.

Essie's Blanc is my current one but I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for a different brand as I find Essie far too overpriced. You can read my full thoughts here.

Sephora's Polish in "Keep Me Posted." I thought I had a review of this up but I guess I don't, maybe I'll put one up! This shade reminds me of mermaids and the ocean. It's a stunning teal and I can't get enough of it.

Elf's Polish in I believe it's called Mango Madness. This is such a bright fun coral color. It screams summer time to me. I find it looks better on darker skin tones but that won't keep me from wearing it.

What are your favorite summer shades?

NOTD - Essie Blanc & Sephora Party Animal

Hello loves!

Oh, white nail polish you are the most unforgiving of colors when it comes to rushed application.
Using Essie's Blanc as a base I wanted to try out my Sephora glitter polish in the shade "Party Animal." Tis the season for festive glitter right?
As you can see in the photo (only a couple hours later) the accent nail is already smudged. You guys already know how I feel about Essie polishes so I won't go into much detail about that.
Party Animal has various chunks of glitter suspended throughout it and when applying the glitter is so sporadically spread out on the nail that even with multiple coats I found it extremely difficult to get an even finish. There's a reason I prefer solid colors as I find them easier to work with and less of a pain to remove.

Do you prefer glitter or solid colors?

Overhyped Brands - Essie

I don't know why I continue to purchase Essie's Polishes. They have a wonderful shade range, don't get me wrong. The price and the formula however are a different story.
My latest foray into the brand was with the shade "Blanc" which like all the others in my collection was a disappointment to say the least. The color of the white is perfect and as expected with any white polish was sheer so I did expect going in that I'd have to build it up quite a lot and three coats later, here we are.
In most drug stores around my area Essie polishes retail for about $11.99, expensive for a drug store polish, no?
It applied smoothly and evenly but it's not even been a day and there's chipping...minimal but for a polish I'm paying over ten dollars for, I expected a lot better in terms of quality.
I've had five dollar polishes that last longer, hell I've had two dollar polishes that had less chipping in a day.
Albeit, I didn't apply a top coat but I've bought other Essie colors that I've used with not only a top coat but a base coat as well and they still crack and chip before 24 hours has gone by.
Essie, you have an incredible range of colors, many of which I've eyed up but your formula is not up to par. It's unfortunate really as I can't think of another brand that has the range Essie has color wise.

What are your thoughts on the brand?

Christmas Nails

Hey everyone.

I was feeling a tad creative today well as creative as it gets when you don't have the proper nail art tools. I wanted to create a Christmas inspired nail look. Originally I wanted to do alternating red & green glitter nails. After searching my polish stash I had no greens at all so instead I went with a red and white look, clearly inspired by candy canes and Santa's colors.

Using:
Essie's "Blanc" for the white
N.Y.C. Polish in "Imperial Red"
a dollar store glitter topper.

Hope you guys like it!
I definitely want to purchase some nail art tools to create better looks but for now simple will do.

F A L L N A I L S - with E S S I E

Hey loves!

Please excuse the not so neatly done nails. Originally I wanted to do Halloween themed nails which I did attempt multiple times to be honest....although I could not get them to work out so they were painted then taken off, then repainted so on and so forth. I first had them painted all black then tried to add spiderwebs using a white polish but that failed, then I tried again with the same black base but adding the words boo! and unfortunately those didn't work out either. I clearly need much more practice in the land of nail art...

I did want to follow in the deep color trend of fall though so I used Essie - After School Boy Blazer which Essie describes on their site as a blue-black. On my nails however this comes off much more of a dark purple then navy, still a beautiful color but not close to what it's described as.
Essie's polishes are quite pricey retailing at $11.99 a bottle in Canada. You'd expect at that price to be getting a polish that would last you more than a day. Within one day there was quite a bit of chipping around the tops and edges of my nails. I hear people rave about Essie all the time and I have to tell you, please don't believe the hype. For $11.99 there are SO MANY better polish brands out there.
Essie does have a phenomenal shade range but that is about it.

Do you guys love Essie?

NOTD

Hello loves!

Here are my nails of the day. I used Essie's "After School Boy Blazer" as the base and Sephora's "Party Animal" as the glitter top coat and then to finish it all off I used a Revlon Top Coat.

Sephora's Party Animal is a great glitter polish and I never have many good things to say about glitter polishes but this one dried so quick where as the MANY others I've tried never seem to dry and then when you go to put a top coat on you just end up creating a smudged disaster but with Party Animal I had no problems what so ever.

I absolutely love glitter over dark bases and will continue to wear my nails like this throughout most of fall and winter.

=)
