Too Faced - Smoky Eye Palette

Hello loves.
Back with another product review. Yes, I know this is an incredibly old palette in the grand scheme of things but I still wanted to give my thoughts on it.

I bought this via Hautelook which if you don't know is a flash sale website. Go check it out!
I don't use this as much as I'd like to. Mostly because of the darker tones which for office workers like me are generally frowned upon. I wish I would have had this when I was 18 and in my clubbing phase because these shades are perfect for it. Too Faced has always had impeccable packaging and this palettes no different. It's housed in cardboard with a magnetic closure. I'm sure a lot of people would nit pick that this doesn't have a mirror but I for one never use palette mirrors for my makeup so it doesn't bother me in the least.

I don't find the three base shades to be shades I'd use enough to justify the larger size but I understand why they did it. The shadows of course are incredibly pigmented and apply like butter. I find the black to fall a little short but I've never found a perfect matte black. The palette includes three cards with different eye looks for any beginners out there who are unsure where to begin. Out of all three rows the top is my most used. I'm thinking of throwing this into a declutter though as I just don't have enough places or events to wear it to.

What's your go to smoky palette?

Tarte Tartelette

Good morning loves.

I was met with some sad news this weekend, another family member of mine has passed away. This is the second one in only three months, it's been a tough year for my family and I.

Of course, I don't want to dwell on it so to keep me occupied I thought I'd write a review for you all on the Tarte, Tartelette palette. A natural all matte palette housing twelve shades. You may notice I'm missing one. While doing my makeup one morning this crashed to the ground, luckily enough though the only shade that crumbled out was the matte black which I have in almost every other palette so I wasn't too heart broken!
These shades swatch terribly but perform like a dream on the eyes. They are silky, pigmented and blend well, the only shade I have a problem blending is the dark purple. I don't use this palette too much as I find it kind of boring. Most of the shades are too similar for my liking as you can see in the swatches. It doesn't feed my creativity, I find that most looks I try to create with this end looking the same which isn't what I look for in a palette. If you need an easy to wear palette however this would be perfect as it does create simple, professional looks for a work environment.

What's your favorite Tarte palette?

Bedroom Eyes

Well, hello again loves.

We all love a sexy, sultry eye look. The Too Faced Boudoir palette delivers just that.

Soft, blendable colors that can easily take you from day to night. The swatches above do no justice to how these perform on the eyes. The shimmer shades swatched nicely but the mattes on the other hand look rather chalky. I've always found Too Faced to do a matte shade well and was surprised at how they swatched. Albeit, owning this palette forever this is the first and only time I've "swatched" it.

When dipping into the shadows there's a lot of kick up but that doesn't bother me. They apply and blend like a dream. French Tickler being black of course is harder to blend out so be wary of that.
A neutral color scheme with three deeper shades to add depth. This little palette packs a punch and can create a soft daytime look for everyday wear to a sulrty look for a night on the town. My favorite shade is "Satin Sheets" which I believe is included in quite a few other Too Faced palettes.

What's your favorite "mini" Too Faced Palette?

Drugstore Diamonds - Loreal Infalliable Shadows

{left to right: Endless Choclat, Magnetic Coral, Purple Obsession & Pepsy Coral}

Hello loves!

I know we all love our high end & luxury brands but the drug stores really do hold some hidden gems. My newest and most recent discovery being the Loreal Infalliable 24 hr shadows. I know these have been around for a while but Loreal as a brand was never on my radar as I never really saw anything I was interested in. These were on clearance and I was looking for some new things to try so I picked up four of them!

Endless Chocolat - A gorgeous chocolate brown with gold glitter reflect. You can't see the glitter in the swatch but when applied on the eyes it' stunning. I love this color albeit being a tad bit hard to blend out.

Magnetic Coral - A beautiful light coral shade that is gorgeous all over the lid.

Purple Obsession - This isn't a shade of purple I would normally go for but as an impulsive buyer of course I had to get it. Extremely pigmented and blends easily. I love doing a purple eye with this smoked out in the outer corner.

Pepsy Coral - When looking at Pepsy Coral and Magnetic Coral in the containers they look almost identical in color but as you can see in the swatches Pepsy Coral is much darker.

Loreal's Infalliable shadows are incredibly pigmented and three out of the four that I own blended well. Endless Chocolat took a bit of extra effort but it's a darker shade as well so build it slowly.
I'm definitely interested in picking up more of these as I was pleasantly surprised because most of the Loreal products I've tried thus far haven't impressed me.

What Infalliable shade is your favorite?

Jeffree Star - Beauty Killer

Hello loves!

I've owned this palette for a while but have only just started using it recently. There is always some kind of drama surrounding Jeffree Star. I don't like him as a person but I truly believe if you go digging into anyone/any brand you are bound to find out something you don't like so if I like the products chances are I'll keep purchasing them.

I didn't purchase this, I won it in an Instagram giveaway. I never win anything so I was super excited, not to mention being Canadian ordering anything of Jeffree's site is a no no. The shipping & exchange are outrageous.

Beauty Killer contains 10 shades, 3 of which are mattes. This is not a palette for neutral lovers as there are only 3 really "neutral" shades. When I first looked at it I had an extremely difficult time trying to create a natural look for work which is why I hadn't really used it. I've taken to using it for nights out or on the weekends when the color scheme is more appropriate.

{left to right: Star Power, Princess, Violence & Rich Bitch}

{left to right: Courtney, Expensive, Confession, Vanity, China White & Black Rainbow}

A couple of the shades have a really dry texture including Star Power, Expensive and Vanity. Despite the dryness I didn't struggle when using them on the eyes. I found all the shadows applied quite pigmented but when blending some colors almost blended away which left me constantly re applying the shadow to build color. Not a quality I'm looking for in my eye shadows. The packaging is like many others on the market, it's housed in pink cardboard and contains a huge mirror inside which is always a nice touch.

Beauty Killer is an average palette with okay shades, it didn't wow me like I thought it would and I'm happy I didn't use my own money to purchase it.

KYSHADOW - The Bronze Palette FAKE?

Oh hello again!

Fake palettes, they're everywhere. Guys, if you plan on buying an expensive palette please do yourself a favor and purchase it straight from the source or you're liable to end up with a fake. Fake palettes are generally made with lower grade ingredients that can cause severe reactions or irritations to your skin

I have never purchased from Kylie Cosmetics nor do I plan to in the near future. This was given to me by a co-worker as she found out it was a fake. I like having these so that I can create posts like this to show you guys what to look for if you do plan on trying to save money by buying it elsewhere like eBay. Unfortunately she didn't give me the packaging from it so I can only base my observations on the palette itself.

Note: I did take many of the points from this video as I don't own the real one to compare it to. Thank you Maricela for creating such an informative video! The fake in her video and this one though are not the same so there are still differences.

The first thing is that the tears are different colors. On the real palette in her video you can see they are much more bronze. My fake palette does not have the same color tears as hers did however the ones on mine are much more brown with a tinge of silver.

On the back if you compare it to photos of the real one the creators of this fake have completely mislabeled the top & bottom row of shadows. The bottom row is the names of the top shadows and the top row is supposed to be the shadows in the bottom. The middle one was correct though. In Marcielas video you can see that the real Kyshadow has a serial number just underneath the shades where as the fake one doesn't. I wish I would have had the real palette so that I could compare the ingredients because I imagine they aren't the same.

 Again, I'm unable to compare the shadows but please refer to Maricela's video and her swatches.  Swatches of this palette are below.

So, the colors are definitely different than the original but I don' think they're bad colors. The only scary thing with fake palettes is that you don't know what kind of ingredients are in them and if there safe for use on the skin. I have used this actually and I didn't have any irritation but please be careful with fakes and if you really want a palette, save the money and hold out for the real one because you will be much happier with your purchase than if you spend close to the same amount for something that turns out to be completely different.

I hope you guys found this useful & helpful.

Have you ever bought a fake on accident?

ABH: Modern Renaissance VS Subculture

Hello loves!

I was hoping to get this post up last week but I got hit with a wicked cold that has knocked me on my ass for the past week and a half. I'm just getting over it but still have a cough that is rocking my body that I severely wish would disappear already.

Subculture hit the market about a month ago. First being released online on the ABH website, then Sephora & Ulta online and finally in Sephors stores on August 15th (the latest release).
This has been the most CONTROVERSIAL palette I've ever seen.
I first saw it pop up on my Instagram feed and was completely taken by the gorgeous and unique color scheme.

Of course owning the coveted Modern Renaissance palette I had to get my hands on this. It's said by Norvina to be the sister palette to M.R. the night to day if you will.

The color scheme is extremely unique and when looking at it there's not many easy to create looks that pop out at me but none the less I've still fallen for its beauty.

The M.R. & Subculture are both cased in velvet packaging with embossed logos. The M.R. one in white which contrasts nicely to the pink while the subculture logo is embossed in gold against a dark teal. I'll be honest I hate velvet packaging, my reason being that it's impossible to keep clean. If you get any trace of makeup on your hands or fingers and touch the palette it wont come off. Velvet may look nice but it's so far from practical. You can even see that my dog's hair even gets stuck to it and she sheds like a monster (her hair is literally everywhere!)

Where the controversy begins...the base ingredient.
The shadows in Modern Renaissance were made with mica. The subculture shadows were made with talc which is known to be a cheaper alternative. A lot of people were upset and shocked that a brand like ABH would even use talc as an ingredient. Now, I'm no chemist and I honestly don't know the difference between using mica & talc but this was one of the things that people were quite up in arms about.

The shadows in these palettes are not the same and I think because it's the "sister palette" people just assumed they would be which is where a lot of the controversy comes into play. They're not pressed or formulated the same nor are they made with the same ingredients so of course these shadows are going to be different.

The shades in M.R. are softly pressed which of course leads to fall out although it's nothing compared to the fall out the shadows in Subculture. Like I said above though the shadows in Subculture are so softly pressed they're almost like pigments which is the cause of the extreme fall out. They were formulated so differently you can't truly compare the formulas to one another.

We all know and adore the M.R. It's a beginner friendly, easy to use palette with a gorgeous color scheme to boot where all the colors work wonderfully and blend beautifully with one another. I bought M.R. when it was first released and I still use it constantly and have yet to hit pan on any of the shadows and I use this almost daily. For me, this was the palette to own in 2016.

I bet you're all wondering how I feel about Subculture aren't you?
It's nothing like the Modern Renaissance and if you go in comparing it to M.R. you will hate it. I think this is the reason there are so many negative reviews surrounding it.
It's not a bad palette you just need to work with it.
I wouldn't recommend it for beginners. In fact, I had to go research a bit about color theory as there are certain colors in here that when blended together are going to come out muddy no matter what you do so beware of that. I had to stare long and hard at the color scheme before I could come up with a look as like I said before if you're not careful or don't know anything about color theory a look can go wrong very quickly. The colors aren't easily paired together so to speak.
These are EXTREMELY soft shadows so heavy handed users be warned. You only need to tap your brush very lightly into the pan and you will pick up more than enough color so be sure after every tap that you tap the excess of because these are ridiculously pigmented and it's easy to apply to much at once.
Heed my advice, build the color slowly and blend after every application.
You need to be incredibly careful when using this palette but I believe with time, effort and practice you can create some stunning looks with these shadows.

Top row swatches from left to right - Modern Renasissance { Tempura, Golden Ochre, Vermeer, Buon Fresco ♥,  Antique Bronze, Love Letter & Cypress Umber}

Bottom Row - Modern Renaissance {Raw Sienna, Burnt Orange, Primavera, Red Ochre, Venetian Red, Warm Taupe & Realgar}

{I apologzie for the hair in Electric, I didn't notice it when taking the photo}

Top Row Swatches - Subcultre {Cube, Dawn, Destiny, Adorn, All Star, Mercury & Axis}

I absolutely L O V E cube. It's such a unique color that I've never seen before and looks amazing in the inner corner. I've yet to see anyone use it as a lid shade but I'm interested in giving it a go and seeing how it turns out!
As you can see Mercury is much darker when swatched than it is in the pan so if you're using it on the eyes be aware of this.

Bottom Row Swatches - Subculture {Roxy, Electric, Fudge, New Wave, Untamed, Edge & Rowdy}

Roxy I found to be the softest shade in the palette and the one with the most fall out. The fall out doesn't really bother me though because you can just pick up the excess on the palette with your brush so it doesn't go to waste. I had higher hopes for Electric but if you use it wet or with your finger instead of a brush it's much more pigmented. Edge is like Mercury in terms of it swatching much darker than it is in the pan. It comes out looking like a darker mustard yellow opposed to the brighter yellow it gives off in the pan.

I haven't used Subulture that much. I've used it maybe about two or three times and you can clearly already see dents in the pans of the shadows. My Modern Renaissance has been well loved but it took a long time to see physical use in the pans. I actually got my nail caught in Roxy which is why it looks so rough in comparison to the other colors but yes because of how these are pressed I don't think the palette's going to last as long as others with hard pressed shadows.
I've heard though that Norvina said they will be repressing/reformulating the palettes however I don't know how true that is.

Here was a look I created with Subculture, a halo eye using New Wave in the crease, Fudge in the outer and inner corners and Adorn on the lid with my new favorite inner corner highlight - cube.

Overall I like it, do I love it?
No but I don't think it deserves the negative hype it's been receiving.

What do you guys think, have you tried it?

Kat Von D - Metal Matte

Oh hello loves.

I apologize for the lack of posts lately, life is really getting in the way of things these days.
Today's post is featuring one of my favorite palettes, albeit being limited edition I still wanted to share my thoughts.
This was the 2016 Christmas palette from Kat Von D, the Metal Matte.

I've tried a few items from Kat Von D some being rather disappointing and others exceeding my expectations.

The packaging design is stunning on this just as it is with all her other products. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Kat creates the designs for all her products, What I love about this is that if read one way the palette says metal but flip it around and it says matte which I thought was an incredibly cool concept!

 The palette includes 22 eye shadows, 9 in Kat's popular Metal Crush formula and 13 mattes.
This is by far the largest palette I own but for the amount of product you get I think it's fairly priced.

The color scheme includes pops of colors & neutrals, it's a well rounded palette.

I'd never tried the Kat Von D Metal Crush shadows but after first use I was in love. They are soft, extremely pigmented and easy to blend. My favorite shimmers in the palette are Ignite, Twinkle & Glitz.
Some of the mattes swatched quite patchy but overall most of them were pigmented and blended well. They are incredibly powdery but this has never deterred me as all you need to do is tap off the excess from your brush before application. The mattes I found hardest to apply were Jet and Stone both darker colors. Stone, although a lovely color I found to be the most difficult shade to work with. When blending it becomes patchy and the color completely fades away in some spots.

{Top to bottom: Nebula, Watt, Ignite, Tinsel, Glitz, Twinkle}

{top to bottom: Tinsel, Glitz, Twinkle, Volt, Synergy & Flash}

{top to bottom: Linen, Jet, Velour, Stone, Moss, Ribbon & Silk}

{top to bottom: Fringe, Feather, Oak, Suede, Bone & Velvet}

I'm happy I got my hands on this while it was still available and I'm sorry for posting this after it was no longer available but I had to share my thoughts on it!

What's your go to palette at the moment?
